From official press release:

Acclaimed for his remarkable stylistic diversity, the award-winning trumpeter and composer Brownman Ali is perhaps best known in the international arena for his Afro-Cuban excellence after several headlining performances at the Havana Jazz Fest in recent years with his energized latin-jazz outfit CRUZAO's heavily Cuban peppered sets.  But for this special 3-concert series, for which he will play EXCLUSIVELY flugelhorn, he will dip into his deep knowledge of Brazilian music mounting a tri-weekly series featuring three of Canada's most recognized female world-music vocalists all performing strictly Brazilian repertoire - Venezuelan world music diva Eliana Cuevas, sultry Brazilian songstress Aline Morales & urban music queen Janelle Monique.

Brownman has long-time deep affiliatons with each of these vocalists and states "I'm really excited about this series.  A chance to work with 3 of my friends who happen to be some of country's most refined vocal entities and explore the depths of Brazil together musically?  Man, this'll be something to be remembered for sure!".  When asked about why the use exclusively flugelhorn he says, "the flugelhorn has been a defining sound in Brazilian-jazz for a long time.  I had the honour of studying with Claudio Roditi, one of Brazil's most renowed flugelhornists, when I lived in New York City and that buttery, rich, warm sound is what I hear when I think of Brazilian-jazz"

The concept for such a series was borne from performing at last year's Havana Jazz Festival with Brazilian vocal legend Ivan Linns, who has asked Brownman to appear on an upcoming recording.  Couple that with his recent exploits with Brazilian-jazz ensemble PERMUTACOES who, in July, dazzled the Mod Club with their powerful sounds during Jazz By Genre's Brazilian/Latin Night and his current Brazilian love affair becomes clear.

Witness what Brownman and these staggering vocal talents can do with Brazilian music first hand at the Trane Studio Fri Sept 1, Fri Sept 8 & Fri Sept 15!
